Vancouver, BC – The Langara School of Management (LSM) senior team won first in the strategic plan category and first overall in competition against business students from across the country at the 29th Annual Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC).
The winning Langara team includes Gagandeep Saini, Cara Eckert, Wincy Wu, and Kabir Singh Dhillon. Kabir also received second place in the top individual award. The students study in the LSM post-degree diploma and Bachelor of Business Administration programs and were coached by LSM instructors Don Hill and Bernie Maroney.
The team came out on top against teams including McMaster University, Medicine Hat College, and the host institution Okanagan College.
The three-day WCBC was a comprehensive and complex business simulation that required students to predict a hypothetical company’s performance over the course of eight years.
“Before the competition started, we practiced the simulation and submitted a business plan,” says Cara Eckert. “It was a challenge to balance our actual school work with practicing and preparing the plan, but it was so rewarding to have won.”
The competition also required students to present their strategic solutions to a panel of judges made up of business leaders from the Okanagan region and beyond.
“This was a very competitive event and I’m incredibly proud of our students,” says Don Hill. “Competitions like WCBC provide our students with invaluable experiences that they will take with them into the work world. They get to hone their strategic ability and business aptitude, and are connected with other future business leaders.”
A junior team, made up of students not in their final year of study, also represented Langara in competition at WCBC.

CPA case competition
Langara also fielded a team at the recent CPABC annual business case competition. Competing against 64 other teams, Langara was invited to compete in the final round as one of the top eight teams. The team of Michael Lister, Christian Aguilar, Linh Dinh, and Mabel Law represented the College well and the competition provided an opportunity to enhance their critical thinking, leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
