MRIA contest winners
Chloe Woolsey,  Shenglong (Kevin) Jiang, Graeme Chalmers, and Joanna Babiuch receive their award.

Vancouver, BC –Langara congratulates marketing students Graeme Chalmers, Joanna Babuich, Chloe Woolsey, and Shenglong (Kevin) Jiang, who have been announced as the winners of BC’s 2011 Student Marketing Research Competition.

The competition is run on an annual basis by the BC branch of the Marketing and Research Intelligence Association (MIRA).

Marketing instructor John Falcus entered a project completed by the group into the contest in December of last year. The foursome were announced as winners in January, and granted the Roger Griffin Award for Excellence in Marketing Research. The award comes with a trophy and a $250 prize for each student.

“The project produced by these students was exceptional,” said Falcus, who taught the group in his second-year Marketing Research class. “They competed with students from UBC, SFU, BCIT, and the University of the Fraser Valley – coming in first place is a terrific accomplishment! It’s wonderful to see their work recognized by the market research industry in BC.”

The award-winning project completed by Chalmers, Babuic, Woolsey, and Jiang was a two-phase research study conducted to determine the attributes consumers consider important when selecting a coffee shop. They conducted a performance review, a focus group, and an online quantitative study as part of their research.

The MRIA is a Canadian not-for-profit institution representing all aspects of the market intelligence and survey research industry. The Roger Griffin Award for Excellence in Marketing Research is named for market research specialist and MRIA founding member Roger Griffin, who passed away in 2011.
