Loren Lidin Named National Player of the Year

Langara’s Third Year Falcon Takes Home Top Prize at the CCAA All-Canadian Banquet

Just weeks after being named the BCCAA Provincial Player of the Year, Langara College’s Loren Lidin will be bringing back an even higher honour when she returns to her Port Moody home from Etobicoke, Ontario this week. The 3rd year goal keeper and Gleneagle Secondary graduate was named the Canadian Colleges’ Athletic Association (CCAA) National Player of the Year at the CCAA All-Canadian Banquet hosted by Humber College.

“To say that the Athletics Program is proud of Loren, would be a huge understatement,” said Langara's Director of Athletics and Intramurals Clayton Munro. “When I called to congratulate her the morning after the banquet, I think she was still pretty surprised and very humbled. It’s not often that goal keepers get recognized with these types of awards and in fact I’m not aware of another goal keeper from BC being named a Player of the Year in Canadian college soccer. It is certainly a first for a Langara goal keeper and I think that speaks volumes of her as a student-athlete” Munro added.

This national award caps off an outstanding season for Lidin. In late September she was named a BCCAA Athlete of the Week, and went on to be named a BCCAA 1st Team All-Star, the CCAA Athlete of the Month for the month of October as well as the BCCAA Player of the Year. Lidin, along with teammate Taryn Lim (Richmond, BC), were also named CCAA All-Canadians at the national banquet.

Statistically Lidin led all BCCAA keepers with a goals against average of 0.59 to go along with her four shutouts. The Langara business student also help the Falcons win their fourth league title in five years. Unfortunately for Lidin and the Falcons their season came to an end much sooner than they had hoped after losing in the BCCAA Championship final to Kwantlen Polytechnic University by a score of 3-2.

Loren Lidin becomes the third CCAA National Player of the Year in the history of the Langara’s Women’s Soccer program joining Diana Cochrane (2004) and Rachel Pelat (2006). All three athletes have played under the leadership of Head Coach Ryan Birt, who in his ninth year at Langara College has seen his athletes collect a remarkable ten CCAA All-Canadian Awards.
