Vancouver, BC - Langara students can now access academic writing assistance at the click of a button with the province-wide online tutoring service, WriteAway.

Set up as a collaborative service offered by BC colleges and universities, Langara College joins 14 other post-secondary institutions using WriteAway. The new service complements the in-person tutoring support offered by Langara’s Writing Centre.

“The Writing Centre is extremely popular with students and regularly receives over 1,100 student visits each fall and spring,” says Joyce Wong, Department Chair and Coordinator of Library and Learning Commons. “Strong writing skills are critical for academic success in many subjects, not just English, so we are very excited about collaborating with other BC colleges and universities to expand writing help on campus.”

“The WriteAway service will complement the tutoring services currently offered in the Library and Learning Commons and will further strengthen the spectrum of academic support available to Langara students.”

Qualified tutors from each of the participating institutions staff the service, and students can expect to receive feedback within 24-48 hours of submitting their draft assignments. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Langara English Instructor and WriteAway tutor Greg Holditch added, “Using the service is super easy: just register at www.writeway.ca and upload the assignment you want feedback on. After a day or two, your paper will be returned with a detailed response from a writing tutor. And you can do this up to three times for each assignment!”

Langara students wishing to use the service can create an account through the WriteAway website. Once the account is created, students can send quick questions about writing or grammar or upload writing assignments for review.

The Writing Centre is located on the bottom floor of the Library and Learning Commons and is open Monday to Friday and offers students free confidential advice at any stage of the writing process. For more information, visit www.langara.ca/writing-centre
