Langara College is hosting a province-wide Applied Research Symposium today, in partnership with the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). The campus is welcoming 40 Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Research Directors from the province’s colleges to discuss strengthening their Applied Research programs.

“NSERC believes colleges are positioned to make a vital contribution to Canada's innovation system,” says Bert van den Berg, Acting Vice President of NSERC’s Research Partnerships Programs. “I am pleased to participate in today's discussion on college-applied research strategies.”

Topics under discussion include the state of Applied Research in British Columbia, the gap between BC and other provinces in realizing Applied Research enterprises, and success stories from neighbouring BC colleges. The program will conclude with a panel discussion featuring Selkirk College president Angus Graeme, Northern Lights College president Laurie Rancourt, and Langara College president Lane Trotter, exploring the ways British Columbia colleges can increase the province’s share of Canadian Applied Research initiatives.

“Langara is committed to expanding Applied Research opportunities for our faculty and students,” says Trotter. “We’re proud to host this symposium and continue connecting Langara research with the needs of businesses and our community.”
