Electronic Music Production (CS)

Overview

EMP quintuple guitar imageThe Electronic Music Producers (EMP) Program is a 1-year full-time program training freelance music producers/songwriters and composers for film, TV, gaming, advertising and multimedia. The full-time program teaches music production from a number of perspectives:

Composing: students learn to compose music in any style of music. Students study music theory and songwriting/arranging from an applied arts perspective. In other words, songwriting is studied as a means of solving a problem. The music must fit the needs of a film or game, or the producer must collaborate with the artists he or she is producing.

Recording: students learn audio recording techniques in a digital and analog recording environment. The students practice using the computer and software and in a commercial recording studio (typically Mushroom Records).

Producing and Mixing: This makes up the primary technical focus of the program. Students learn to produce, mix and master using software such as Cubase, Reason, Ableton Live, and Native Instruments Komplete.

Publishing: Students learn how they can make a living in the music business, dealing with copyright, business plans and how to promote online and offline.
